Post-Operative Lymphatic Drainage

SPECIALIZED

How Surgery Affects your Body

After a cosmetic surgery (such as a tummy tuck, BBL, liposuction and breast surgery) your body will be swollen and fatigued. The surgery process creates an inflammatory response in the body which is essential for healing, but can leave you in pain and feeling like you're more swollen than before.

Depending on the surgery, you may be at risk for developing seromas, which are fluid pockets under the skin. This fluid increases inflammation, which can lead to poor healing and possible infection.

When tissue is injured, your body will also send fibroblasts to the area to heal it. This natural response helps your body recover and create scar tissue. However, during surgery your lymphatic vessels will be compromised, causing the cells and proteins to become trapped in clusters. Three weeks after the surgery, fibrosis may start to form, leaving your skin rippled and lumpy. Liposuction patients are at higher risk of fibrosis.

Why Do Post-Op Lymphatic Drainage in Edmonton?

Our specialized Post-Op Lymphatic Drainage massage speeds up recovery and reduces swelling. It also prevents the stagnation of proteins in the interstitial space, which ultimately prevents fibrosis from taking hold. When it comes to fibrosis, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Many doctors recommend Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage as early as possible. Lymphatic Drainage ensures patients get the best possible outcome from their surgery investment.

When Should I Start Post-Op Lymphatic Drainage?

We recommend starting as soon as your drains are removed and all incisions healed. Whether your surgery was in Edmonton or abroad, you should follow your surgeon's recovery recommendations.
